Nancy Ann Rutledge was born April 16, 1945, in Chicago to William and Eleanora Tolk Schierhorn and died October 16, 2018, in the presence of her family. She married John Rutledge New Year’s Eve in 1966 and together they raised their son Ed in Wheaton. In addition to John and Ed (Kate), she is survived by granddaughters Elizabeth and Eleanor and her brothers Ronald Jensen (JoAnne), Rick Schierhorn (Ulla), and Peter Jensen (Mary Ann), as well as many nieces and nephews. Also with Nancy in her last hours were very close friends Deborah and Dave Barnat and their children.

Following Canty Elementary (where she met her lifelong friend Joan Olszewski Walsh) and Steinmetz High School, she graduated with Honors from the University of Illinois in 1967 with a degree in Math Education. She was a member and Chapter President of the Alpha Kappa Chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha. After working a few years at Illinois Bell, she taught data processing at College of DuPage and then worked in the creation of data systems for the health insurance claims processing field, sometimes managing as many as 100 technical professionals and traveling most weeks.

Nancy was a lifelong learner, earning her MBA from Northern Illinois University at age 39, her Master of Divinity at 51 and her Master of Counseling at 54. As a child, she became a pianist and often played her favorite, Rhapsody in Blue. Her piano is now the proud possession of her granddaughters. She enjoyed classical music, theatre, and art.

Until her health began to fail, Nancy enjoyed travel and visited 47 states as well as Canada, Europe, and Russia. A favorite was a special B&B in Saugatuck MI. She enjoyed meeting friends for dinner, and particularly liked pizza, shrimp, reubens, and Chicago-style hotdogs.

In her last two years, she resided at the DuPage Care Center (DPCC) where she made many friends and enjoyed the gardening program and other recreational activities.

Nancy would have requested memorial contributions to College of DuPage Foundation/MAC, 425 Fawell Blvd., Glen Ellyn, IL 60137, or First Presbyterian Church of Wheaton, 715 N Carlton Avenue, Wheaton IL 60187.

A visitation will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Wheaton from 4:30 pm - 7:30 pm on November 18 with a memorial service at 10:00 am on November 19, also at the church.
