Thomas Keith Loan (Tom), 53, passed away on September 22, 2018 surrounded by his mother, three brothers, and two sisters-in-law.
Tom possessed a creative soul that could not be constrained by a conventional life. Tom saw the beauty in people, animals, and items which went unnoticed by others. He was a curator of recycled items, friend to the friendless, and hero to strays and rescue animals.
Born a child of St. Patrick on March 17, 1965 in San Leandro California, he was raised in Wheaton, IL. Tom graduated from Wheaton Warrenville Highschool and attended Southern Illinois University and North Central College of Naperville, IL.
Tom loved his friends and family. Generous to the end, he cared for his ailing father helped around the house for his mother and neighbors. He loved his siblings, cousins, nieces, nephews and his rescue animals.
Tom was a Chef for most of his life and started cooking at the age of 16 at the Front Street Junction in Wheaton. For over a decade, Tom ran the kitchen operations at the Last Act Restaurant in Chicago, IL. He inherited his love of food from his father and shared his father’s interest in cook books. Tom was writing a cook book dedicated to his father up until his death.
At the age of 9, Tom began to play the piano. Music was a center piece of his life which he shared with others on a YouTube channel. His Grandfather Richard Verwer, an accomplished accordion musician was Tom’s musical inspiration. As an Art and Music major in college he enjoyed studying the history of music and painting. He was inspired by his Grandmother Lillian to become a painter and sculptor. He enjoyed working with oils and watercolor to create portraits and landscapes.
Tom was preceded in death by his Father Richard. Tom is survived by his Mother Karen, Brothers Chris, Steve, and Matt, Sisters-in-law Jane (Chris) and Beth (Steve) and his beloved rescue dog D.O.G who will pampered and spoiled by Chris and Jane.
In a final act of generosity, Tom donated his tissue and organs to Gift of Hope.

There will be a memorial visitation and service held in honor of Thomas on October 20, 2018 at Cooper’s Corner Restaurant (27W150 Roosevelt Rd. in Winfield) from 11 AM until 2 PM. Interment will be private. Arrangements by Williams-Kampp Funeral Home. For info 630-668-0016 or www.williams-kampp.com
