James Edward Cronin, born on Nov. 14, 1925 in Chicago, passed away peacefully at his home in West Chicago, Il. on July 26, 2018 at the age of 92.
James grew up on the south side of Chicago with his six siblings. He graduated from St. Ignatius High School in 1943. That fall he attended Loyola for a semester before being drafted at age 18. He joined the Navy and was sent to the University of Notre Dame for officers’ training in Naval Science. He graduated in 1946 and then studied in the seminary for three years before entering the work world.
James worked most of his life as a printing salesman which provided well for his family. He and his wife, Beatrice, married in 1956 and just celebrated their 62nd anniversary. They have eight children, twenty-six grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
James is survived by his loving wife, Beatrice, two sons Joseph and Kevin, and six daughters Laura (John) Sandberg, Sheila (Anthony) Lucia, Patricia (Jeffrey) Kraft, Monica (Jeffrey) Carstens, Mary (Larry) Spatz, and Donna (John) Piemonte.
James was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister. His sister, Margaret, still resides in California.
Visitation is Monday, 4-8pm at Williams-Woodward Funeral Home, Route 59 and Pine Street in West Chicago. Funeral mass is Tuesday, 10am at St. Mary’s Church in West Chicago. Interment at Assumption Cemetery, Winfield.
