Edward "Ed' Fitzmaurice passed away peacefully on Monday, Feb 26th at the age of 84. He was a devoted husband of 62 years to the late Dee, loving brother to the late Joanie Zobel Nendze, loving father, and the most adoring grandfather who will be remembered for his quick wit and devotion to the people he loved most. He is survived by his five children: Daniel, Bill (Eileen), Diane (Jack) Brady, Judy (David) Tolin and Tom (Lory Fitzgerald); and his eight grandchildren: Colleen, Taylor, Megan, Lexi, Bridget, Nicholas, Lauren and Cami.
Edward was born in Chicago on October 15, 1933, to Anna and Thomas Fitzmaurice. He attended Fenwick High School(’51) in Oak Park where he excelled in academics and Fenwick’s famed track and field program in the Chicago Catholic League.
Ed served our country by joining the US Army and quickly made a name for himself as cross country champion while he was stationed in Fort Knox as well as Germany.
Back at home in Chicago, Ed married his sweetheart Dee, finished college at night at Loyola, while working for Sears as a management trainee in the State Street Store. They raised their five children in Bellwood before moving to the western suburbs of Wheaton.
After a 33 year career at Sears, his retirement was spent devoted to his family and grandchildren. His family and friends will cherish their fond memories of the time they spent with him.
A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, March 3rd at 11:00am at St. Daniel the Prophet Catholic Church, 101 W. Loop Road, Wheaton, IL. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery Wheaton.
