Belia Hernandez Contreras, a strong, brave, selfless matriarch and a devoted wife of the late Manuel Contreras, unexpectedly died at home in Chicago and left us to be with the Lord on Thursday December 28, 2017. She was born in Chicago on November 24, 1931 in the home of her parents, the late Joseph and Mary Domitila Lozano. Throughout her life, she remained a devout Christian and committed member of the Gospel Assembly for over 40 years. She is survived by her children, Deborah VanOverbeke (Alain), Manuel Jr. Contreras, Dean Contreras, and Kim Swider (Tom); her grandchildren, Stacey Paset (Jeffrey), David VanOverbeke, Rebekah VanOverbeke (Brian), Julie Callazo (Eric), Joseph Contreras (Nicole), Daniel VanOverbeke, Adrian Goad (Daniel), Thomas Swider, Sarah Contreras, and Olivia Swider; and her great grandchildren, Olivia, Augustine, Madeline, Nicholas, Alexandra, Avery, Camille, Elodie, Sophia, Cassandra, Jack, and Mason. She is also survived by her brothers, Roger (Kathy) and Hector (Fran); sister, Yrma (Bill); and many beloved nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Manuel, she is predeceased by the never forgotten baby of the family, Benny; her sisters, Emma (Bill) and Pearl (Hal); and brother, Joe (Shirley).
