Ken Trantowski, a Glen Ellyn resident for more than 45 years, passed away December 5, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. Born September 25, 1948, to Edward and Eleanore (Szalka) Trantowski, Ken was the eldest of five children raised in Hamtramck, Michigan, a community known for its Polish American identity.
After he earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in journalism from Northern Illinois University, Ken pursued a career in public relations, where he specialized in crisis communications and reputation management. After thirty years in major public relations firms, including Edelman and Burson-Marsteller, Ken established his own public relations company in 2001, which he directed for the rest of his life.
An avid golfer and enthusiastic supporter of Notre Dame, Ken’s true passions were his family and friends. He especially treasured his time in his beloved Kiawah Island. Ken was known for his compassion, humor, and indomitable spirit, and he will be greatly missed.
Ken is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 47 years, Mary (Hendricks); his daughters, Elizabeth, Rebecca (John) Farrell, and Jessica (Alex) Abraham; and his grandchildren, Jack, Owen and Maeve Farrell, and Scarlett and Quinn Abraham. He is also survived by his sisters, Julie (Tom) Grzadzinski, Geralyn (Larry)Swiatek, Carol (Tom) Paduchowski, and brother Ed (Roxi) Trantowski; sister-in-law Karen (Bob) Jones and brother-in-law John (Lou) Hendricks; and twelve nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, Ken requested that contributions may be made in his memory to the Mission of Our Lady of the Angels, 3808 W. Iowa St., Chicago, IL 60651 or Sacred Heart Parish, 114 S. Elizabeth St., Lombard, IL 60148.
