Albert “Al” Savegnago, 89 of Wheaton Illinois passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, October 1, 2017. Albert was born in Geneva, Illinois May 12, 1928 of immigrant parents Santo Savegnago of Italy and Concetta “Jennie” Difazzio of Sicily. He was raised in Wheaton, Illinois where he stayed the rest of his life. Al fondly remembers Wheaton when horse and buggy could be seen on the streets of downtown. Al attended Lowell Elementary school from kindergarten through second grade; St. Michael’s School third through eighth grade. He was a 1946 graduate of Wheaton Community High School and joined the National Guard for seven years. He met the love of his life, Carol Schafer of Elmhurst, at a CYO dance, fell in love and was married in a double wedding with her sister, Shirley, at Immaculate Conception (Elmhurst) in October 21, 1950. They raised three children Kurt, David and Lisa. Al loved to work. He started his own business in 1956, that through the years evolved into an industrial screen printing company, Nameplate & Panel Technology in Carol Stream. Al and Carol loved to travel; attended theatre and concerts; and supported many charities, educational institutions and other community organizations. Al had a giving heart. If anyone asked him for help his answer was always a resounding “Yes”. He loved his town and loved to support all of the wonderful non-profit organizations that serve humanity.
He is survived by his wife Carol; children Kurt (Sally) Savegnago of Canton Illinois; David Savegnago of Wheaton; and Lisa (Randy Johnson) Savegnago of Carol Stream, Illinois. Grandchildren Sarah (Phillip Shao) Savegnago; Christopher Savegnago; and Sophia Olivia Savegnago-Johnson, His brother Donald (Dorrie) Savegnago of Wheaton and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
