Norbert E. Scherner was born on January 22, 1934 to Paul and Juila Scherner in Chicago, IL and died peacefully at the home of his loving niece, Clare L. Barry, on August 8, 2017. Our dear brother, uncle, great-uncle and cousin arrived in this world prematurely and fought bravely to survive. His determination throughout life and his strong sense of independence was aided by the love of his family who was always there to take care of him. There was not one thing that Norbert could not do whether it was caring for his father’s rose garden on Artesian Ave; doing home repairs or walking his niece’s home from school. His greatest accomplishment was working as a courier and doing graphic design work in downtown Chicago in the 1980’s. His smiling face and willingness to engage in conversation helped him make friends and acquaintances no matter where he was. Survived by his brothers John and Alfred (Jeanne) Scherner; his sister Veronica Chalko, sister in law Pat Scherner, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Preceded in death by his parents Paul and Julia Scherner; his sisters, Marcella Barry and Laurice Scherner, and brother, Paul Scherner.
