Edwin L. Sulima, 91, of Naperville passed away peacefully in his home March 28, 2017. Dear son of the late John and Paulina (nee Wasowicz) Sulima. Beloved husband of Patricia (nee Ryan); loving father of Tim Sulima, Pam Sulima and Kim Gartlan; cherished grandfather of Mike (Erica) Sweitzer-Beckman, Kristy Geffen, Nathan Gartlan, Olivia Gartlan and great-grandfather of Josie Geffen and Ruth & Eddy Sweitzer-Beckman; fond brother of Hank Sulima of Vero Beach, FL, & Jeanne Moore of Port Crane, NY, and brother-in-law of Pat Sulima of Chicago, IL, & Bonnie Sulima of Pueblo, CO; proud uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Eddy was born in Chicago and grew up in a large, loving family in St. John of God parish on the south side. Upon graduation from Lindblom High School in 1943, he was drafted into the Navy and honorably discharged in 1945. He married Patt on his birthday in 1950 and together they started their home and raised their family near Midway Airport, where they resided for 48 years. Eddy was a draftsman, primarily in the steel industry. His family and home were his hobbies. Eddy could build or fix anything. His work was impeccable. He enjoyed gardening, cooking, and playing pinochle. Most of all, Eddy loved his family. He was a faithful husband, wonderful dad, doting grandfather (Papa) and helpful neighbor. Eddy was a good man whose priorities were God, family and country. He will be remembered and always appreciated for his trustworthiness, diligence and devotion.
Visitation Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Williams-Kampp Funeral Home 430 E. Roosevelt Rd. Wheaton, IL 60187. Additional visitation Saturday from 9 a.m. until time of Mass 10 a.m. at St. Irene Catholic Church 28W441 Warrenville Rd. Warrenville, IL 60555. Interment Resurrection Cemetery Justice, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations to Eddy's favorite charity, St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, would be greatly appreciated.
