Long time resident of Wheaton, IL Phyllis J. (nee Daugherty) Sanders, 92, died January 20, 2013 peacefully at home.
Phyllis was born December 30, 1920 in Kendallville, IN. She grew up in Ft. Wayne, IN and moved with her family to Elmhurst, IL, subsequently graduating from York High School. Phyllis received a B.A degree from Rosary College (Dominican Univ.) in 1942. She maintained lifelong friendships with many of her Rosary classmates. Phyllis married Francis P. Sanders June 17, 1944 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Elmhurst, IL. In 1956, she helped design their home built on land in unincorporated Wheaton.
Phyllis taught for many years at various West Chicago schools, retiring in 1986. Her interests included volunteer work, genealogy, golf, bridge, and was a fan of the Chicago Cubs and Univ. of Notre Dame sports. She also wrote poetry and had a children's storybook published.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, Francis P. Sanders; loving parents Earl and Helen (nee Johnson) Daugherty; brother Earl W. Jr. (Helen) and sister Mary Helen "Mollie" (John) Murphy. Survivors include sons Joseph (Gail) and Michael (Ann); grandchildren Gregory (Megan) Sanders, Kathryn (Brian) Kessler and Julie Sanders; step-grandsons Bradley and Ryan Finneran; and great-grandchildren Gracyn, Luke and Max. She was also a dear aunt of many nieces and nephews.
No visitation. Mass of the Resurrection to be celebrated 11:30AM Thursday, January 24, 2013 by Reverend William Conway at St. John the Baptist Church 233 Church St. Winfield IL, with entombment at Assumption Cemetery Mausoleum.
