Ronel “Ron” Serion Gonzales, 71, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, September 27, 2017. He was born on March 16, 1946 in Negros Occidental , Philippines son of Leonardo and Salud (Serion) Gonzales.
Ron attended West Negros College and graduated from Binalbagan Catholic College with an Elementary Teacher’s Certificate. He met the love of his life, Milagros “Mila” Lovino,in 1963. They were married on September 30, 1970. He immigrated to Chicago, IL in May 1971 and eventually settled with his family in West Chicago, IL. Ron worked for Harris Bank, Northern Trust Bank, and Continental Bank before working as a Trust Tax Accountant for Bank of America for over 25 years..
Ron was a kind and generous man. He often sent care packages to family in the Philippines. He was an active part of the community as a member of the Knights of Columbus, PLFI (current member and past Chairman for 4 years), St.. Mary’s Church, Lion’s club in Carol Stream, and Friendship Force International travelling club.
Ron enjoyed his life to the fullest. He loved to spend time with family and friends, travelling, dancing, watching and playing tennis, play Mah Jong, play rummy with Mila, and collecting hats, mugs, and shot glasses.
Ron will be deeply missed by those who were lucky enough to know him. He is survived by his loving wife, Milagros, his daughter, Mary Rachel, his sons, Mark (Leora) and Rommel “Matt” (Annika), grandchildren, Teagan and Phoenix, his siblings Leonardo Jr, Abraham, Heidi, Edwin and 5 half-siblings as well as many extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents Leonardo and Saludand siblings, Rhodora, and Marino, and 3 half siblings.
