On Saturday, January 5, 2019, Darrell Lee Schrum, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully in his Wheaton home at the age of 66.
Darrell was the second oldest son born to Delmas and Jeanette (nee Obermeier) Schrum in Carroll, Iowa. After graduating from high school, Darrell entered the US Navy where he served on the USS Kitty Hawk until 1975. Upon his full discharge from the Navy, Darrell entered the University of Iowa where he graduated with a degree in Industrial Engineering. Darrell continued his career with the government in various roles in California, New Hampshire, New York, and finally in Illinois where he worked as an inspector for the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission until he retired in 2008.

While in the Navy, Darrell met his first wife, Christy (nee Calma). They had daughter Shella and son Shane. They were married for 20 years prior to her death. Darrell then remarried Lilybeth (nee Fajardo). They had sons Joshua, Jonathan, and daughter Joslin. Along with Lilybeth’s daughters Nicholette, Norilyn, and Nolissa, he was always most proud when he could tell strangers about his 8 children and the 22 year age gap between the oldest and the youngest.

Darrell also enjoyed spending time with his 8 grandchildren and spoiling them with all the ice cream and candy they could eat no matter what time of day it was.

Darrell is survived by his wife Lilybeth, daughter Shella (Jason VanWyk) Schrum, son Shane Schrum, step daughter’s Nicholette (Adam) Stotler, Norilyn (Tela) Chhe, and Nolissa Alloso, sons Joshua Schrum and Jonathan Schrum, and daughter Joslin Schrum; grandchildren Ella, Kaiden, Maleyah, Cedie, Star, Ava, Trinity, and Belle; brothers Darwin (LaVonne) Schrum, Duane (Teresa) Schrum, Doug (Joan) Schrum, David Schrum, and numerous in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents Delmas and Jeanette Schrum, first wife Christy Schrum, sister Donis Schrum Christensen, in laws Alfonso and Expectacion Fajardo, and brother in law Ben Fajardo. Visitation Friday from 4-8 pm at Williams-Kampp Funeral Home, prayers Saturday 9:15 a.m. to Mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael Church, Wheaton, Illinois. Interment Assumption Cemetery
